Tornado is forever striving to improve the sustainability of our products, how they are made and how they are used.

We are always working to lower the impact of our business on the environment.

Tornado's Sustainability Framework

Tornado’s sustainability policy is based on the principles of internationally recognised and accepted conventions and agreements for the environment, human rights, working conditions and anti-corruption, such as the UN's Declaration of Human Rights, the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Companies. Tornado as part of Storskogen Group is also a member of the UN Global Compact.

Tornado is committed to achieve Net Zero by 2045 at the latest, but with an interim target to halve our Scope 1 & 2 emission intensity by 2030.

In addition Tornado has committed to sourcing 80% of our electricity from fossil free sources by 2025. This is to move to 100% fossil free electricity by 2030.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Tornado is currently planning the installation of solar power, potentially complemented by wind generation at its own manufacturing facilities. We have already adopted LED lighting to minimise energy usage. Our factory based mobile plant fleet is transitioning to electrically powered units.

Our woven wire fences are made from heavy galvanised steel. The specification of our wire and the galvanisation is designed to promote long product life of fences in service. These products are then 100% recyclable at their end of life. Fundamentally our products are designed to harmlessly control different animal species, both wild and domesticated, keeping them in or out of designated areas. This can reduce the loss of crops, optimise the efficient use of land and protect designated areas during re-wilding so that plant species have the opportunity to become re-established.

Our product packaging is limited to that needed to protect the products during transportation. We maximise the re-use of pallets for distribution of our products and wooden formers for wire coils are made by Tornado using FSC wood from sustainable sources. All complementary products such as timber is FSC certified and with our long-term supply sources we can demonstrate the chain of custody.

We work with suppliers of wire that are working to reduce the intensity of emissions in their processes and have their own plans to achieve net zero. Our transport of raw materials into our business and product distribution to customers is optimised to promote the minimisation of empty or under-loaded transport movements and we frequently deliver direct to job-sites to minimise extra transport movements.

Social Factors & Governance

Our sustainability policy is broader than our impact on the environment. We also focus on social factors and good governance and business ethics. We require our suppliers and business partners to follow recognised good practices and where not already in place we require them to sign up to our Partner Code of Conduct. The Partner Code of Conduct covers amongst other things business ethics, treatment of personnel, equality and diversity, anti-slavery in addition to environmental sustainability.
